We're located in the heart of the town of Louisbourg, a short distance from the world famous Fortress. The Branch is a popular stop-off for many veteran visitors from across Canada.
The Canadian Legion in Louisbourg started with a small group comprising of 14 ex-servicemen. These veterans of the 1st WW called their club the Ex-Servicemen's Club. They applied for a charter of the Royal Canadian Legion in March of 1942 and this was granted in February 1943. The tireless and invaluable Ladies Auxiliary was organized in 1945 and received its charter in 1947. In April 1947, the Branch purchased a piece of land from the Town of Louisbourg, and in June, purchased a building (the former Radar Station #6) for $644. Through good times and bad, the Branch has been a focal point in the town, with projects like our Veterans Memorial Garden. This handsome park adjacent to the Legion, overlooks our magnificent harbour. This fitting tribute to our fallen and late comrades was a joint effort of our town, local communities, the general public and the Branch and especially the Trojan assistance of the 45th Field Engineers. The Legion actively supports the Navy League of Canada, Louisbourg Sea Cadets and Little League Baseball. The Branch is also an active participant in the Cape Breton Veterans Comfort Fund and continues to donate to all worthwhile organizations it can.

Experience the coal-hauling times of the Sydney & Louisburg Railway and its marine connections. Words, pictures and artifacts tell the story in and around the 1895 station and engine house. An extensive model of the town's coal-to-ship transfer now occupies the freight shed. A large quilt display and vintage passenger and freight cars are seen here including Nova Scotia's oldest passenger coach, built in 1881. The Louisburg Station on Route 22 is also home to an important Visitor Information Centre.
